Senior lefthander Teague McFadden tossed a complete game four-hitter in the second game to lead Wayne State College in a 15-1 win over Minot State, avoiding a series sweep by the visiting Beavers after Minot State won the opener Sunday afternoon 9-5 at the Chapman Complex.
McFadden pitch a complete game four-hit shutout, allowing an unearned run in the top of the seventh, as the Wildcats avoided the weekend sweep with a 22-hit attack.
Wayne State took control early with three runs in the first and second innings for a 6-0 lead. The Wildcats added one run in the fourth, three in the fifth and a five-run sixth to put the game out of reach.
The Wildcats had 22 hits in the win as every starter registered at least one hit. Tandon Dorn was 4-for-5 with a triple, four RBI and four runs scored to lead the Wildcats. Cody Jenkins finished 3-for-3 with two RBI while Tanner Simons and Bodie Cooper each accounted for three hits. Aaron Krier homered, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored while Jackson Petersen was 2-for-4 with three runs scored. McFadden struck out seven and walked two on just 89 pitches to get the seven-inning complete-game win.
In the opener, Minot State scored at least one run in six of the seven innings to secure the weekend series with their third win over the Wildcats.
The Wildcats scored single runs in the first and second for a 2-1 lead. Minot State took the lead for good at 3-2 in the third with a pair of runs, then added solo runs in the fourth and fifth for a 5-2 lead.
Wayne State scored in the bottom of the fifth to make it 5-3, but Minot State scored twice in the sixth and seventh to offset two Wildcat runs in the bottom of the sixth to secure the win.
Minot State had 12 hits in the win to just seven for WSC. Jenkins was 3-for-4 with a homer and two RBI. David Janes had a two-run double for the Wildcats while Krier, Simons and Kyle Thompson each singled.
Aiden Breedlove took the loss, allowiong five runs over 4 2/3 innings on 10 hits with four strikeouts and one walk. Adam Poldberg, Tegan Nissen and Joey Lenihan each worked in relief for the Wildcats.
Wayne State (5-9, 1-3 NSIC) will play a non-conference game Tuesday at William Jewell College, with a nine-inning game set for 3 p.m. in Liberty, Mo.
