Wildcats move up one spot to #10

Two weeks remain in the regular season as the Wayne State College volleyball team increased their national ranking by one spot.

According to a release from Wayne State Athletics, the Wildcats received 674 points in voting conducted by various Division II coaches nationally in this week’s AVCA/TARAFLEX Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll.

#10 Wayne State College is 19-5 overall and third place in the NSIC with an 11-3 record. WSC recently split matches last week winning 3-0 at Augustana while suffering a 3-1 loss at then #10 Concordia-St. Paul.

Ferris State (24-0) moves up one spot to take over the #1 ranking with 40 first place votes. Other first place votes include #2 St. Cloud State – NSIC (21-2) up one spot with three first place votes; #3 Cal Poly Pomona (20-1) up one spot with two first place votes and #4 MSU Denver (20-2) down three spots with two first place votes.

Other NSIC teams along with #2 St. Cloud State and #10 Wayne State College include #8 Concordia-St. Paul (18-4) up one spot; #16 Southwest Minnesota State (19-4) down six spots and #21 Northern State (17-5) remained the same. Other teams receiving votes and listed on two or more ballots include Minnesota Duluth (12) and Minnesota State-Mankato (three).

#10 Wayne State College will host MSU Moorhead on Friday, Nov. 8 at 6 p.m. and entertain #21 Northern State on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 4 p.m.

Earlier this season, WSC won in four sets at MSU Moorhead on September 20 and also swept Northern State in Aberdeen, South Dakota on September 21.
