Wildcats moves to 4-0, four in double figures

A fourth non-conference outing opened a busy week for the Wayne State College men’s basketball team.

From Rice Auditorium on the campus of Wayne State College, WSC welcomed Bellevue University.

The Wildcats built a 15-point lead at the break and went onto win 82-65 improving to 4-0 on the season. Monday’s game was an exhibition contest for the Bruins.

WSC led 37-22 at the half and edged Bellevue University in the final 20 minutes, 45-43. Final favored the host Wildcats winning 82-65.

Wayne State College never trailed in the game and recorded 20 assists.

Wayne State College was led by Matt Noll (8-11 FG/1-3 3PT/3-4 FT) with 20 points, six rebounds, four assists, two steals and one block; Sean Stokes (6-8 FG/2-4 3PT) followed with 14 points, four assists, three rebounds, two steals and one block as 10 point scoring came from JJ Ferrin (4-6 FG/2-3 3PT) who also had four assists, three steals and one rebound as well as Cody McCullough (5-8 FG) who tacked on a team-high seven rebounds with two assists and two steals.

Other scoring came from Nassir Binion (five rebounds/two steals/one assist) and Ryan Blum (two rebounds/one steal) both with seven points; Jay Saunders (three rebounds/three assists/one steal) and Kai Smith (one assist/one block) each with five points as Noah Erickson (one assist/two blocks/one steal) finished with four points.

WSC shot 34-59 (57.6%) from the field, 7-14 (50%) from the three-point line and 7-15 (46.7%) from the foul line.

WSC outrebounded BU, 29-26 including 12 to nine offensive which led to eight second chance points compared to Bellevue University with 10 second chance points. WSC scored 25 points off of 19 Bellevue University turnovers while the Bruins scored 11 points off of 10 Wildcat turnovers.

WSC won the battle in the paint (48-30) as the Bruins won fast break scoring (12-9) and both teams scored 29 bench points.
