After moving up their game times an hour, the Wayne State College softball team was back on their home diamond for weekday action.
From the Pete Chapman Softball Complex, WSC welcomed Southwest Minnesota State on Tuesday.
The Wildcats chalked up two more home wins thanks to victories of 9-1 and 4-1. WSC is now 21-12 (6-3 NSIC) winning their third straight while SMSU fell to 22-16 (4-8 NSIC). Wayne State College is 4-1 at home and their 21 wins has now tied their overall win total from 2024 (eight) and 2023 (13) combined.
In the opening game, Southwest Minnesota State started with one run in the top of the first inning.
WSC answered with three runs the next half of an inning. Sophomore Lillie Timm posted a three-run homerun scoring sophomore Jordyn Klein and freshman Leah Chance.
Following a scoreless second, Wayne State College added one run in the home half of the third. Chance crossed the plate on a throwing error.
After a scoreless fourth, the Wildcats posted a five-run fifth inning to win by run-rule. Redshirt freshman Kennadi Borngrebe doubled in Timm; senior Hayley Murphy recorded a two-run homerun scoring sophomore Masyn Bunnell; sophomore Taylor Coleman drove in freshman Maddie Scobee as Chance reached on a fielding error accounting for a RBI scoring redshirt senior Mary Krystofiak.
Final favored Wayne State College winning 9-1 while outhitting SMSU, 11-3. Both teams committed two errors.
Hayley Murphy singled, doubled and posted a two-run homerun; Lillie Timm singled, recorded a three-run homerun and totaled two runs scored; Mary Krystofiak singled, doubled and scored as Leah Chance singled twice, drove in a run and scored twice. Kennadi Borngrebe also doubled and drove in a run.
Taylor Coleman singled and drove in a run as Jordyn Klein, Masyn Bunnell and Maddie Scobee all scored.
Borngrebe (65 pitches) picked up the complete game victory in five innings allowing one run off three hits while striking out six batters, walking two and hitting one.
During the second outing, neither team scored in the first inning until Wayne State College drove in three runs during the home half of the second. Senior Lauren Laudick posted a two-run homerun scoring Krystofiak followed by a sac-fly by sophomore Emilee Marth scoring sophomore Jordyn Rochholz.
Following a scoreless third, Southwest Minnesota State plated their lone run of the game in the top of the fourth.
WSC answered with a single run a half of an inning later. Rochholz added a solo homerun being the fourth homerun of the day for the Wildcats.
Final favored Wayne State College winning 4-1 while outhitting SMSU, 6-5. WSC committed one error compared to zero errors by the Mustangs.
Jordyn Klein singled twice; Lauren Laudick recorded a two-run homerun as Jordyn Rochholz tallied a solo homerun and two total runs scored.
Emilee Marth singled and drove in a run as Mary Krystofiak singled and scored.
Taylor Coleman (122 pitches) picked up the complete game victory in seven innings allowing an earned run off five hits while striking out eight batters and walking two.
The Wayne State College softball team will next visit Northern State on Saturday, April 5 at 1/3 p.m. and MSU Moorhead the following day on Sunday, April 6 at 11 a.m./1 p.m.
