The Wayne State men’s and women’s indoor track teams came home with some solid performances during the Mark Schuck/Minnesota State Open Saturday in Mankato, Minn.
Cade Kalkowski and Dlyan Kaup led a 2-3 finish for the Wildcats in the weight throw with marks of 64-1 and 61-1, respectively.
Bryce Holcomb recorded a second-place finish in the 600-meter dash (1:23.97) while Brock Hegarty came in third place in the 1,000-meter run at 2:37.21.
Other top five finishes for the Wildcats came from Mikhail Sands in the long jump (21-3 1/2), Aaron English in the high jump (6-1 1/2) and Nathan Pearson in the 600-meter dash (1:24.33).
Ben Allen collected a sixth-place finish in the shot put (49-7 3/4), Preston Davis was sixth in the 60-meter hurdles (8.79), Will McGonigal came in eighth place in the 3,000-meter run (9:17.46) and Nathan Hiemer was 10th in the 1,000-meter run in a time of 2:43.37.
The Wildcat 1,600-meter relay team of Davis, Holcomb, Michael Kueny and Pearson crossed the tape in eighth place with a time of 3:41.18.
In women’s action, Mikayla Marvin and Jordyn Pester each recorded third-place finishes to lead the Wayne State women
Marvin posted a third place mark in the pole vault, clearing 10-6, while Pester was clocked in 1:00.11 to place third in the 400-meter dash.
Mckenzie Scheil recorded a pair of fifth-place finishes in the weight throw (59-4 1/4) and shot put (43-10 1/2) while Kenzie Sullivan finished seventh in the shot put at 42-9.
Joan Jelimo took sixth place in the 600-meter dash (1:41.33) while Riana Noelle collected a sixth-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 16-4 3/4. Ali Dykman tied for sixth in the high jump, clearing 5-0 1/2.
Allie Rosener was seventh in the 3,000-meter run (10:52.72), Keyla Sambo finished seventh in the long jump at 15-11 3/4, Kim Johnson was eighth in the 800-meter run (2:26.67), Marin Jetensky placed eighth in the 600-meter dash at 1:43.12 and Jade Rickard posted an eighth place effort in the 3,000-meter run at 10:55.03 with Hanna Lazure tied for ninth in the high jump, clearing 4-10 1/4.
Wayne State’s 1,600-meter relay quartet of Pester, Jetensky, Jelimo and Brianna Crouch came in sixth place in a time of 4:13.00.
The Wildcats will compete next weekend at the Husker Invite in Lincoln and the South Dakota Open in Vermillion on Friday and Saturday.
