Wildcats rise to #6 in latest AVCA/TARAFLEX division II coaches poll

Following a dominant weekend of home NSIC volleyball, Wayne State College moved up in the national poll.

According to a release from Wayne State Athletics, the Wildcats moved up two spots to sixth in this week’s AVCA/TARAFLEX Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll released late Monday afternoon.

The Wildcats collected 862 points in voting from various Division II coaches across the country.

WSC won both matches last week in sweeps over Minot State and UMary to improve to 10-2 on the season and 4-0 in NSIC play.

Tampa holds down the top spot with their 8-0 record and 43 first place votes. #2 MSU Denver (11-1) follows with one first place vote while #7 Cal Poly Pomona (10-1) was tabbed with three first place votes.

Other ranked NSIC teams include #4 Southwest Minnesota State (13-0) remained the same; #8 St. Cloud State (9-2) moved up four spots; #12 Concordia-St. Paul (8-4) fell three spots; #15 Minnesota Duluth (8-2) remained the same and #22 Northern State (10-2) remained the same. Minnesota State-Mankato (25) was also receiving votes and listed on two or more ballots.

#6 Wayne State College is on the road this weekend visiting Minnesota Crookston Friday evening at 6 p.m. and Bemidji State Saturday afternoon in a 2 p.m. contest.
