Wildcats show improvement on second 18, Sayre top finisher

Ahead of home competition next week, the Wayne State College women's golf team closed out their second straight 36-hole event in a week.

Back at Shangri-La Golf Club in Monkey Island, Oklahoma, WSC competed against 19 other teams during the DII Spring Regional Preview on April 7 - 8 hosted by Central Missouri.

The Wildcats remained the same to finish 15th overall following rounds of 320 and 311 to total a two-day score of 631.

After trailing by three strokes on Monday, Henderson State (289/285) finished six shots better than the host Central Missouri (286/291) to win the DII Spring Regional Preview 574-577. Arkansas Tech (293/296) took third with a 589, Harding (295/296) placed fourth with a 591 and Rogers State (301/298) and Southwestern Oklahoma State (308/291) tied for fifth both totaling a 599.

Among the eight in red, Felisa Sajulga from Henderson State was crowned the individual champion after posting rounds of (two-under) and (six-under) for a  36-hole score. There were 106 golfers who posted two-day score (one golfer only finished 18 holes on Monday).

Junior Saffire Sayre showed a four-shot improvement to lead Wayne State College with rounds of 78/74 (152) to tie for 31st.

Other team scoring was recorded by freshman Camryn Johnson (83/76) to tie for 56th with a 159; sophomore Erica Lee moved back 14 strokes with rounds of 73 and 87 totaling a 160 to tie for 64th (was tied for 15th after day one); junior Meg Thompson (87/77) increased by 10 shots for a 164 to tie for 77th as senior Abbigail Brodersen (86/84) finished tied for 93rd with a 170.

The Wayne State College women's golf team will next host the Wildcat Classic on Monday and Tuesday, April 14 - 15 from the Wayne Country Club.
