Wildcats split day one of Premier Challenge

It was a top 15 showdown to start the Premier Challenge in Colorado for #2 Wayne State College.

From the Auraria Event Center in Denver, Colorado, #2 WSC took on both #13 Chaminade (HI) and Wheeling (WV) on Friday.

In the afternoon outing, Chaminade secured the 3-0 sweep over the Cats while Wayne State College answered back later in the evening thanks to a 3-0 sweep against Wheeling.

In the 3-0 loss to #13 Chaminade (22-25, 23-25, 23-25), WSC outhit their opponent, .269 to .208. Wayne State College also held an advantage in blocks (6-2).

Taya Beller (.440) recorded a team-high 14 kills to go along with four blocks (one solo) and three digs followed by Channatee Robles with 10 kills and eight digs. Molly Romano posted 32 assists, two kills, seven digs and two blocks as Brooke Peltz also tied for the team lead in digs with eight.

Maggie Brahmer added nine kills and two blocks as Brooklyn Kusler tacked on five kills and a block. Other dig leaders came from Allie Petry (seven), Anna Borner (five), Rhianna Wilhelm (one) and Taylor Bunjer (one dig) and two blocks.

Robles and Peltz both had a service ace.

During the 3-0 sweep over Wheeling (25-21, 25-14, 25-22), Wayne State College outhit their opponent, .353 to .220. WSC also held advantages in points (65-40), kills (54-34), aces (5-3), blocks (6-3), assists (52-34) and digs (48-41).

Double figure kills came from Kusler (four digs) and Robles (five digs and a block) both with 15 as Beller (three digs, four blocks/three solo) added 13 kills. Romano recorded 48 assists and six digs as Peltz led the team in digs with 14.

Brahmer tacked on eight kills, four digs and two blocks as Bunjer had three kills, one dig and two blocks. Other digs came from Borner (eight) and Petry (three).

Service aces came from Borner with two as Romano, Kusler and Beller all had an ace.
