Wildcats split Monday games, conclude Washburn Tournament Tuesday

Two more opponents were on the schedule for the Wayne State College softball team on Monday.

From Topeka, Kansas, the Wildcats matched up against Central Oklahoma and Central Missouri.

Wayne State College suffered an 8-1 loss against #13 Central Oklahoma followed by a 3-2 victory over Central Missouri. Wayne State College is now 6-2 on the season and have gone 2-2 in Topeka.

During the loss against Central Oklahoma, UCO opened scoring with two runs in the top of the first inning.

Wayne State College plated a run in the home half of the second. Redshirt Senior Mary Krystofiak recorded a solo homerun.

Central Oklahoma brought in two more runs during the top of the third and, following back-to-back scoreless innings, scored four more runs in the top of the sixth inning.

Final favored Central Oklahoma winning 8-1 as UCO outhit WSC, 7-4 committing zero errors compared to three by the Wildcats.

Three other Wildcats recorded hit behind the solo homerun from Krystofiak. Sophomore Jordyn Klein, freshman Leach Chance and sophomore Haylee Weber all singled.

Senior Samantha Felt (57 pitches) suffered the loss in three and a third innings allowing two earned runs off two hits while striking out one batter, walking two and hitting two. Sophomore Taylor Coleman (76) worked three and two-thirds allowing six runs (two earned) off five hits while striking out, walking and hitting two batters each.

In the victory over Central Missouri, neither team scored the opening two innings. Wayne State College scored a run in the top of the third as sophomore Payton Kincaid put WSC on the board during a throw in the field followed by a single run in the top of the fourth when freshman Maddie Scobee drove in redshirt freshman Kennadi Borngrebe. WSC led 2-0.

Central Missouri tied the game up with a pair of runs in the home half of the fourth inning.

Wayne State College would score a single run for a third straight inning in the top of the fifth as Coleman drove in Klein.

Final favored Wayne State College winning 3-2 and outhitting the Jennies, 7-4 as both teams committed one error each.

Chance singled and doubled; Klein singled, drove in a run and scored as Coleman and Scobee both singled and drove in a run. Krystofiak and sophomore Emilee Marth both singled as Kincaid and Brongrebe each crossed the plate once.

Senior Grace Lucka (pitch count na) picked up the win in three and a third of relief allowing two hits while striking out five batters, walking two and hitting one. Felt earned the save recording the final out being a ground out after allowing a hit.

Borngrebe started and pitched three and a third innings allowing two runs off one hit while striking out and walking six batters each as well as hitting two batters.
