Wildcats suffer weekend road losses in North Dakota

In the longest NSIC road weekend of the season, the Wayne State College women's soccer team put on over 1,300 miles of traveling during a three-day period.

WSC first suffered a 7-0 loss at University of May (Bismarck, ND) on Oct. 10 followed by a 3-2 defeat at Minot State (ND) on Oct. 12.

The Wildcats have now dropped three straight falling to 4-3-4 (3-3-2 NSIC).

During the shutout loss at UMary, the host Marauders used three first half goals (9th, 21st, 37th minutes) and four additional goals in the second half (50th, 56th, 68th, 79th).

WSC was held to one shot on goal by senior Paige Pemberton and five total shots (UMary with 21, 11 on goal).

Senior Reagan Allen finished with a team-high two shot attempts.

Sophomore Alexa Hofstetter recorded three saves but allowed five goals in 58:35 of goal time. Freshman Katelyn Miller added one save and allowed two additional goals in the final 31:25.

In the loss to Minot State, the match was tied at 2-2 entering half before the host Beavers scored the go-ahead goal just over four minutes out of the halftime break.

Four of the first goals were scored in less than 11 minutes.

The Beavers scored their goals in the eighth, 11th (10:29) and 50th minutes.

Sophomore transfer Morgan Mancuso netted both Wildcat goals (5th and 11th; 10:43  minutes) leading WSC with four shots, three on goal.

Senior Kaylee Herall assisted the first Wildcat goal.

Allen added three shot attempts with one on goal.

Sophomores Mia Gonzalez (two on goal), Addison Walker (one on goal) and Rachel Davis all finished with two shot attempts.

WSC did have a 16-10 advantage of total shots (8-7 on goal).

Hofstetter spent all 90 minutes in goal recording four saves and allowing three goals.

It was also an aggressive weekend in the foul department by the Wildcat opponents. UMary was called for seven fouls (WSC with five fouls, one yellow) and Minot State had 12 fouls and four yellow cards (WSC with four fouls).

The Wayne State College women's soccer team will next host Southwest Minnesota State on Friday, Oct. 13 at 3 p.m. before traveling to Sioux Falls on Sunday, Oct. 19 at 1 p.m.
