Less than 48 hours after returning from Florida closing out non-conference play, it was back to the grind of the NSIC baseball schedule for Wayne State College.
From the Pete Chapman Baseball Complex, WSC welcomed Bemidji State for their home conference opener on Thursday afternoon.
Wayne State College continued their winning ways picking up the game one win, 9-5 and followed with a 12-0 shutout victory. WSC has now won four straight improving to 7-8 (3-3 NSIC) as Bemidji State fell to 1-11 (0-6 NSIC).
In the first game against the Beavers, Wayne State College started with a run in the home half of the first inning. Senior Chase Douglas recorded a sac-fly scoring redshirt junior Cam Madsen.
Bemidji State would get on a rally scoring twice in the top of the second and again with a run in the third inning to lead 3-1.
The host Wildcats picked up the intensity in the home half of the fourth scoring eight runs. Junior Braden Cannon first drove in senior Taylor Gill; redshirt freshman Connor Hunt added a RBI bases loaded walk scoring senior Quin McCafferty; Madsen later drove in both senior Kaden Young and Cannon; sophomore Max Heard also drove in two runs being Hunt and Madsen as Gill closed the inning with a two RBI double scoring Douglas and Heard.
Following a scoreless fifth, Bemidji State added two more runs in the sixth.
Final favored, Wayne State College winning 9-5 and outhitting Bemidji State, 6-4 despite committing four errors compared to zero by the Beavers.
Cam Madsen singled, doubled, drove in two runs and scored twice; Taylor Gill doubled, drove in two runs and scored as Max Heard singled, drove in two runs and scored.
Braden Cannon singled, drove in a run and scored; Quinn McCafferty singled and scored; Chase Douglas and Connor Hunt both accounted for a RBI and run scored as Kaden Young scored.
Senior Jackson Shelburne (84 pitches) picked up the win in four and two-thirds allowing three runs (two earned) off four hits while striking out seven batters, walking one and hitting one. Sophomore Conlin Grady (41) worked the final two and a third allowing two runs while striking out five batters and hitting one.
During the second victory with BSU, it was all Wayne State who started with two runs in the bottom of the first. McCafferty drove in Douglas and Madsen
Following a scoreless second, WSC added three more runs in the third. Heard began with a RBI driving in Douglas, Young added a sac-fly scoring Heard as Cannon drove in Gill.
The Wildcats then erupted for a seven-run fourth to close out scoring. Madsen started with a RBI scoring junior Casey Prychak, Douglas followed with a sac-fly scoring Hunt, Gill drove in Madsen, Young had the big hit with a bases clearing double driving in Heard, Gill and McCafferty as senior Tyler Obrecht closed out the inning with a double scoring Young.
Final favored Wayne State College winning 12-0 and outhitting Bemidji State, 15-2 while committing one error compared to two errors by the Beavers.

Kaden Young doubled, drove in four runs and scored; Tyler Obrecht doubled and drove in a run as junior Nate Cunningham doubled.
Max Heard singled, drove in a run and scored twice; Quinn McCafferty singled, drove in two runs and scored; Braden Cannon singled and drove in a run as Connor Hunt singled and scored.
Senior Josh Kilzer (72 pitches) picked up the win in six scoreless innings allowing two hits while striking out four batters and hitting one. Sophomore Braden Sweet (six) worked the final inning forcing two groundouts and a flyout.
