Fans showed up in support of the annual Black Out Night and were treated to a home victory.
From Rice Auditorium on the campus of Wayne State College, 875 fans attended Thursday’s match for #8 Wayne State College taking on Augustana.
After breaking the tie early in each set, WSC would go onto win their 12th match of the season with a 3-0 sweep.
The Wildcats are now 15-3 overall (9-1 NSIC) as Augustana fell to 9-10 (5-5 NSIC).
Scores of the match favored Wayne State College 25-14, 25-15, 25-16. There were 14 overall ties and six lead changes through the three sets.
Brooklyn Kusler (.500) recorded 14 kills, six digs and one block as Taya Beller (.438) followed with nine kills, four blocks and a dig. Molly Romano posted 30 assists, eight digs, a kill and three blocks (one solo) as Brooke Peltz led WSC with 15 digs.
Maggie Brahmer (.412) added eight kills and four blocks as Channatee Robles tallied seven kills, three digs and a block. Other digs came from Anna Borner (nine), Allie Petry (five) and Taylor Bunjer tacked on five blocks, one solo (one dig).
Robles finished with three service aces, Borner added two aces as Peltz and Kusler both had an ace.
Wayne State College outhit Augustana, .351 to .097. WSC also held advantages in points (75-45), kills (39-33), assists (36-31), aces (7-3), digs (48-47) and block (10-1). WSC forced Augie into 22 attack errors (six for the Wildcats).
