The Wayne State volleyball team is the No. 1 team in the NCAA Div. II Central Region volleyball rankings announced Wednesday.
The 26-1 Wildcats are one of five Northern Sun Conference teams listed in the rankings this week. They are joined by No. 2 Concordia-St. Paul, No. 3 Minnesota Duluth, No. 7 Northwest Missouri State and No. 10 St. Cloud State.
MIAA schools listed include No. 4 Northwest Missouri State, No. 5 Nebraska-Kearney, No. 6 Central Missouri, No. 8 Central Oklahoma and No. 9 Washburn. No GAC teams are listed in the top 10.
Automatic bids are granted to the winners of the GAC, MIAA and NSIC Postseason Tournaments with the remaining five spots awarded on an at-large basis. The top eight teams in the region will advance to the NCAA Division II National Tournament, scheduled for Nov. 17-20.
The Wildcats close the regular season this weekend with two road games, playing at Minnesota State Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at Concordia-St. Paul at 2 p.m.
