Wildcats two shots off lead, Camryn Johnson leads field of 80 golfers at one-under PAR

After joining two other NSIC women’s golf teams inside the NCAA DII Women’s Golf Regional Ranking over the weekend, Wayne State College began two-day competition amongst other regional opponents on Monday.

From Paradise Pointe Golf Club in Smithville, Missouri, the NSIC Preview showcased 13 teams.

Wayne State College posted a day one team score of 307 to sit second with three teams within three strokes.

Augustana currently leads the NSIC Preview with a first round 305, again WSC follows in second two shots back (307), Minnesota State-Mankato is in third (308), Washburn sits fourth (317) and Missouri Western is rounding out the top five teams with a 319 day one score.

Individually, two freshmen are leading Wayne State College starting with a one-under PAR 71 from Camryn Johnson while Gaia Stancikova follows in a three-way tie for second with a 72.

Other Wildcats in action making up the team score include senior Abbigail Brodersen and junior Saffire Sayre are tied for 34th (82) as sophomore Erica Lee rounds out the team scoring tied for 46th (83).

Junior Meg Thompson, competing as an individual, is currently sitting tied for 15th (78) while another individual competitor is sophomore Hailey Kenkel who is tied for 34th (82). Sophomore Olivia Ottman is sitting 79th (99).

The Wildcat women’s golf team is ranked 20th while Augustana is 10th and Minnesota-State Mankato sits 17th. The NCAA Central Regional will be played on May 5 – 7 at Kickingbird Golf Course, Edmond, Oklahoma; hosted by the University of Central Oklahoma.

Four, 54-hole regional tournaments will be conducted to determine the participants in the championships finals. Eighteen teams in the east, central, south and west regions; along with six individuals, not on those teams, will compete at regionals.

The NCAA Women’s Golf Championships will take place on May 12 – 16 at PGA National Resort; Palm Beach Gardens, Florida; hosted by Palm Beach Atlantic University and Palm Beach County Sports Commission.
