HARTINGTON — Athletes from Allen and Winside earned trips to next week’s state track meet with qualifying efforts Wednesday in the D-4 district at the Hochstein Athletic Complex.
For Winside, JaShaun Vyborny qualified in two events and Dylan Brogren also earned a spot in the state meet.
After falling one place short each of the last three years, Vyborny hit an automatic qualifying mark in his first attempt in the triple jump and finished fourth with a best mark of 41 feet, 2 inches. He added a second event to his agenda for next week, taking runner-up honors in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:09.16.
Brogren gave Winside a third state qualifier, winning the 800-meter run in a time of 2:06.03.
Allen picked up qualifiers in both the boys and girls team races, led by the boys winning two of three relay races with wins in the 3,200 and 1,600-meter relays. The team had a chance to sweep the relays, but a dropped baton cost them in the 400-meter relay. Alli Jackson was also a double winner, dominating the middle-distance runs with wins in the 400 (1:01.87) and 800 (2:29.29).
Bri Hingst qualified with a runner-up time of 51.08 seconds in the 300-meter hurdles, Desi Martell took runner-up honors in the girls high jump at 4 feet, 10 inches, and Brogan Jones in the boys 400-meter run with a winning team of 53.11 seconds.
The Allen girls 1,600-meter relay team finished second, but can still make it to state if their time is one of the seven fastest non-qualifying marks from the 11 Class D district meets held Wednesday.
Class D will compete alongside Class B during the morning session of the Nebraska State Track and Field Championships on Friday, May 18 at Omaha Burke High School. The two-day meet concludes on Saturday, May 19.
