Winside American Legion holds Family/Community picnic

Roy Reed Post 252, American Legion Family, Winside was host to its annual picnic on Sept. 13.

Attendance came in at 105 including 15 Veterans/spouses from the Norfolk Veterans Home, three staff, two volunteers, six American Legion Riders from Norfolk, six Winside FFA students, members of the Winside fire department, village group, three local churches and the American Legion Family.

The event was held at the Winside auditorium which was decorated in patriotic fashion and colors. There was an abundance of great food, fellowship and celebration. The audience was invited to join the quartet in a few patriotic sounds.  All attendees received a hand-held American flag, Auxiliary’s 100-year strong ink pen and ticket for door prizes.  There were four lucky winners of 3’x5’ American flags.

Two Winside Legionnaires, though absent, were recognized as Korean War Veterans and will be receiving a certificate and a Korean War medal “challenge coin” which are provided through the Nebraska Department of Veterans Affairs.
