Winside basketball lands five on Lewis & Clark honorable mention teams

A handful of Winside basketball standouts took home honorable mention honors from the Lewis and Clark Conference.

According to a release, First, Second and Third Team All-Conference recognition along with honorable mention individuals were announced.

For the Winside girls, senior Sam Gubbels, sophomores Hadleigh Schutt and Ellie Topp along with freshman Bridget Marotz were tabbed honorable mention.

Schutt led the Wildcats in scoring (12.8 ppg), made three’s (41), free throw percentage (51%), assists (43) and steals (77). She tied for the team lead in blocks (12) and also grabbed a team-high 118 defensive rebounds (5.9 rebounds per game).

Topp posted a team-high 28% from three making 11 and led Winside in made free throws (44) while finishing second in scoring (11.1 ppg). She was also second in field goal percentage (34%) and rebounding (6.5 rpg).

Marotz led Winside in rebounding (8.7 pg/117 total offensive) and field goal percentage (37%), She also tied for the team lead in blocks (12), was second in both made free throws (42) and steals (62) while averaging 8.9 ppg.

Gubbels was third on the team in made three’s (10), assists (34) and steals (50) while averaging 2.8 points and 3.2 rebounds per game for the Wildcats.

The Winside girls basketball team closed their year at 7-18.

Junior Caleb Offner was selected honorable mention for the Winside boys among the Lewis and Clark Conference.

Offner led Winside in scoring (10.6 ppg), rebounding (6.9 pg/57 total offensive) and blocks (65/2.8 pg). He was also second on the team in field goal percentage (51%) and steals (20).

The Winside boys finished 2-21 this past season.
