Winside battles back to secure five-set victory

After trailing 2-0, the Winside volleyball team posted a reverse sweep on their home court Thursday night.

The Wildcats played host to Creighton to begin their season.

Winside picked up the home victory to start the year at 1-0 while Creighton fell to 0-1.

Scores of the match favored Winside 26-28, 21-25, 25-21, 25-18, 15-10.

Freshman Bridget Marotz posted a team-high 21 kills for Winside to go along with eight digs and four blocks (one solo) followed by sophomore Ellie Topp with 13 kills and six digs.

Sophomore Hadleigh Schutt recorded a team-high 17 assists, with nine digs, six kills and one block as senior Skylar Spann tacked on 14 assists and five digs.

Dig leaders came from junior Jerzi Carlson with 27 digs, six kills and one block; senior Samantha Gubbels followed with 24 digs as sophomore Katelyn Jaeger added 17 digs and eight kills.

Sophomore Raylyn Behmer had six assists and a dig as sophomore Adrianna Miller finished with three assists.

Topp and Spann both had three service aces, followed by Carlson with two aces as Marotz and Jaeger both tallied an ace.
