Winside boys wrestling wins tie breaker over Clarkson-Leigh, drops two other duals during Shelby-Rising City quad

A busy two-day stretch over a three-day period began Thursday for the Winside boys wrestling team.

From Shelby-Rising City Public Schools, the Wildcats joined the host Shelby-Rising City along with Clarkson-Leigh and High Plains for a weeknight quadrangular.

After being tied at 30-30, the Winside boys wrestlers picked up a win over Clarkson-Leigh by rule of fewest number of forfeits but suffered losses of 36-18 to High Plains and 42-18 by Shelby-Rising City.

In tiebreaking victory over Clarkson/Leigh, Winside used forfeit victories by Landon Carlson (132), Mason Edwards (138), Stratton Sellin (144), Korbin Carlson (150) and Asher Uttecht (157) to win by one point in the team race.

Contested match losses for Winside were William Pace (175) by fall (1:07) to Hunter Gall and Braxton Rastede (285) by fall (1:06) to Levi Gall. Clarkson-Leigh won classes of 113, 120 and 215 by forfeit.

Both teams double forfeit 106, 126, 165 and 190.

During the loss with High Plains, a contested match win came from Korbin Carlson (150) by fall (2:34) over Aaron Brown while wins by forfeit were posted by Sellin (144) and Pace (175).

Contested match losses came from Rastede (285) by fall (1:01) to Caleb Sharman, Landon Carlson (132) by fall (1:17) to Hudson Urkoski, Edwards (138) by fall (1:52) to Levi Russell and Uttecht (157) by fall (0:57) to Gage Friesen. Forfeit victories were posted by 215 and 126.

Both teams double forfeit 106, 113, 120, 165 and 190.

From the loss to Shelby-Rising City, contested match victories came from Edwards (138) by fall (4:47) over Deegan Vargus and Korbin Carlson (150) by fall (2:59) over Logan Lindsley while a win by forfeit were posted by Landon Carlson (132).

Contested match losses were posted by Rastede (285) by fall (1:15) to Collin Vrbka, Sellin (144) by fall (3:00) to Carter Eickmeier, Uttecht (157) by fall (4:30) to Owen Krafka and Pace (175) by fall (1:11) to Jett Vrbka. The host Huskies also won the 165, 190 and 215 divisions by forfeit.

Both teams double forfeit 106, 113, 120 and 126.

The Winside girls wrestling team is scheduled to open their season during the North Bend Invite on Saturday, December 14 along with the Winside boys also in action.
