Winside drops home match with St. Mary’s, four Wildcats with double figure digs

A second home match in less than a week tested Winside volleyball during a Class D2 showdown.

From Winside, the Wildcats hosted St. Mary’s (O’Neill) on Tuesday.

St. Mary’s won three competitive sets over Winside to improve to 3-0 while the Wildcats fell to 2-3.

Scores of the match favored the visiting Cardinals 25-20, 25-18, 25-21.

Winside was led by freshman Bridget Marotz with eight kills and eight digs as junior Jerzi Carlson posted a team-high 21 digs with three kills.

Sophomore Hadleigh Schutt followed with six kills, six assists, 11 digs and a block as senior Skylar Spann tacked on eight digs and six assists.

Sophomore Ellie Topp finished with four kills, six digs and a block; sophomore Katelyn Jaeger tallied two kills and 11 digs as sophomore Raylyn Behmer tacked on one kill and two digs. Senior Samantha Gubbels also had 15 digs as sophomore Adrianna Miller had a dig.

Marotz led Winside with a trio of service aces followed by two each from Jaeger and Topp.

The Winside volleyball team will next visit Wynot on Tuesday, Sept. 10.
