Winside edges Wayne, improve state dual hopes
Winside outlasted Wayne 42-36 in an in-county wrestling dual Tuesday at Wayne High School.
Both teams were open in five weight classes, including a double open at heavyweight, and the visiting Wildcats won three of the five contested matches, all by pin, to come away with the win and improve their chances of making the eight-team Class D field for next week’s state dual tournament in Kearney.
Alex Carlson and Dominic Reed both got pins for Winside at 152 and 160 pounds to start the dual. Wayne countered with pins by Reece Jaqua and 126 and Cameron Muhs at 132, and Art Escalante gave Winside the win with a quick 27-second pin of James Dorcey.
Winside travels to the Ainsworth Invitational on Saturday, while the Blue Devils compete at the Plainview Invitational.
