Winside enters subdistricts with momentum

After pushing back their final regular season match one night due to playoff football, the Winside volleyball team will now enter the postseason with some momentum.

From Lyons, the Wildcats secured a four-set victory over Lyons-Decatur Northeast on Oct. 24 (25-19, 10-25, 25-18, 25-14).

Winside is now 13-13 and have won two straight entering postseason play.

Freshman Tinsley Schwedhelm recorded a double-double with 14 kills and 12 assists to go along with eight digs and two service aces. Another double-double came from junior Hadleigh Schutt with 21 assists and 15 digs to go along with eight kills and three solo blocks.

Freshman Aftyn Schutt finished  with nine kills, 17 digs and four solo blocks as senior Jerzi Carlson added 16 digs.

Junior Ellie Topp led Winside in digs with 18 and tabbed two solo blocks.

Junior Katelyn Jaeger also tallied six kills, 14 digs and three solo blocks.

Winside has been tabbed as the #2 seed during the D2-3 Subdistrict scheduled to open tonight in Wynot.

Winside will face #3 Wausa (11-17) at 6:15 p.m. this evening.

The other half of the bracket will open the night at 5 p.m. between #4 Osmond (6-22) and #5 Randolph (5-24) with the winner to face #1 Wynot (25-4) around 7:30 p.m.

The D2-3 Subdistrict Final is scheduled for Oct. 28 at 6 p.m. in Wynot.
