Winside football has four-game winning streak snapped

A four-game winning streak came to an end for Winside during week six of the eight-man high school football season on Oct. 3.

From Winside, the host Wildcats suffered a 40-22 loss to Bancroft-Rosalie.

Winside fell to 4-2 as the visiting Panthers improved to 5-1.

Bancroft-Rosalie jumped ahead 20-0 in the first quarter before outscoring Winside, 18-6 in the second quarter to lead 38-6 at half. Winside used a 6-2 advantage in the third quarter and a 10-0 fourth.

Senior Jayden Aschoff led Winside in the passing game going 4-20 for 45 yards and five interceptions. He also finished with a rushing touchdown on four carries for a net of minus five yards rushing.

Junior Carter Krause carried the ball 17 times for 97 yards and a score as another rushing touchdown was posted by sophomore Asher Uttecht on nine rushes for 66 yards.

Seinor Aden Sellin caught two passes for 34 yards and also had one carry for eight yards.

Senior Matthew Gubbels added two receptions for 11 yards.

Gubbels posted a team-high seven tackles (six solo) and an interception followed by Krause with four tackles (two solo) and an interception. 

Winside will next visit Wynot (5-1) on Friday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. (close regular season vs. Randolph Oct. 17).
