Winside girls lose tie breaker, Winside boys win home dual

After having a weekend invite canceled due to weather, the Winside girls and boys wrestling teams opened their home schedule Tuesday night.

From Winside, the Wildcats welcomed Oakland-Craig.

The Winside girls suffered a 13-12 loss while the Wildcat boys won 34-12.

In the girls dual, Oakland-Craig won the tie breaker receiving the extra point due to criteria five of most wins by forfeit.

The lone contested match favored Winside's Lilly Umbarger (155) by fall (2:24) over Brooklyn Tolzman.

Oakland-Craig won 100 and 110 by forfeit while Winside won 120. Both teams double forfeit 105, 115, 125, 130, 135, 140, 145, 170, 190, 235.

During the boys dual, contested match victories came from Mason Edwards (138) by major decision (21-11) over Jacob Findlay; Stratton Sellin (144) by fall (1:31) over Luis Popoca; Korbin Carlson (150) by fall (0:00) over Simon Druckenmiller and Asher Uttecht (157) by fall (2:18) over Joseph Findlay.

Winside also won 132 and 175 by forfeit while Oakland-Craig won 215 and 285 by forfeit. Double forfeits came at 106, 113, 120, 126, 165 and 190. 

The Winside boys wrestling team will next host a quadrangular with Pender, Randolph and Stanton on Thursday, Dec. 19. The Winside boys will also compete in the Wisner-Pilger Invite on Saturday, Dec. 21 as the Winside girls will travel to the Pierce Invite also on Saturday.
