Winside handles Allen, loses to Wynot in subdistrict

PONCA – Winside’s hopes for a trip to the state tournament were dashed in the D2-5 subdistrict finals Tuesday, as top-seeded Wynot swept the Wildcats, 25-16, 25-14, 28-26.
Fauneil Olander led a balanced net attack for the Wildcats with nine kills, while Callie Finn had eight, Alyssa Brogren had five, Alex Bargstadt had three and Andi Bargstadt had two. Alex Bargstadt had seven blocks and Andi Bargstadt added three.
In setting, Alex Bargstadt had 11, Sarah Wolfe had eight and Morgan Remm had four. Wolfe and Marissa Remm each had two ace serves.
Defensively, Andi Bargstadt had 17 digs, Olander had nine, Wofle and Alex Bargstadt both had eight, Haylee Cummins had seven, Brogren had five and Marissa Remm and Morgan Remm each had two.
In the opening round Monday, Winside defeated Allen in straight sets, 25-10, 25-17, 26-24.
For Winside, Alex Bargstadt had 11 kills, 17 assists, five blocks, two ace serves and six digs. Finn added seven kills, Olander and Andi Bargstadt each had six, Brogren had four and Wolfe had three. Wolfe added 14 assists and Brogren had two.
Brogren and Andi Bargstadt both had two blocks, Brogren and Wolfe each had two ace serves. Defensively, Wolfe led with 20 digs, Marissa Remm added 16, Andi Bargstadt had 14, Olander had 13, Cummins had nine, Morgan Remm had six and Brogren had four.
Allen was led by Kaitlyn Madsen with five kills, Desi Martell added four, Bri Hingst had three, Haley Stapleton had two and Cassidy Thomas had one. Thomas had nine assists while Hingst added one. Hingst had three ace serves and Martell, Stapleton and Bethany Kneifl each had one.
Stapleton led the defense with 11 digs, Thomas had nine, Hingst had eight, Sierra Brahmsteadt had six, Alyssa Boese had five, Martell had four, Madsen and Summer Jackson both had three and Kneifl added one. Madsen had two blocks and Hingst added a block as Allen finished with a 6-22 record.
In regular-season action Friday, the Wildcats fell to Humprhey/Lindsay Holy Family, 25-10, 25-18, 25-19. Alex Bargstadt had seven kills, two blocks, two ace serves and 11 digs to lead Winside. Finn had two kills, four blocks and 16 digs.
Wolfe had seven assists and a team-high 18 digs, Olander had two kills and 12 digs, Andi Bargstadt had three kills and eight digs, Cummins had nine digs and Brogren had six digs.
Winside finishes the season 19-10.
