Winside returns home on winning streak

After giving up 54 straight points their opening week, the Winside football team has now outscored their opponents 106-52.

From Newman Grove on Sept. 12, the visiting Wildcats picked up a 58-16 win at Newman Grove/St. Edward.

Winside is now 2-1 on the season, winner's of back-to-back. NG/SE fell to 0-3.

Senior Jayden Aschoff finished with four total touchdowns for the Wildcats as sophomore Jahiem Hamik took a kick to the house.

Quarter breakdown started fast and physical for Winside with 22 points in the opening quarter and 24 points in the second quarter. The Wildcats led 46-0 at half.

After allowing eight points in the third quarter, Winside outscored the Panthers, 12-8 in the fourth.

Aschoff led the passing attack going 7-10 for 118 yards and two scores. He also had four rushes for 29 yards and two scores.

Sophomore Baker Behmer added a 2-2 performance and 23 yards passing with a score.

Hamik accounted for 113 yards of all-purpose yards thanks to a 59-yard kickoff return, two carries for 45 yards with a touchdown and one catch for nine yards.

Senior Matthew Gubbels led the receiving core with three grabs for 73 yards and one score followed by junior Mason Edwards with two catches for 23 yards and a score.

Junior Carter Krause carried the ball seven times for 37 yards and had two receptions for 22 yards and one score along with sophomore Asher Uttecht with four carries for 29 yards and a score.

Senior Aden Sellin posted a team-high six tackles (four solo) with a forced fumble for the Winside defense as freshman Braxten Hansen (interception) and Edwards both had five tackles (four solo).

Junior Tyler Paulson recovered the fumble.

Next up for Winside will be their homecoming game on Friday, Sept. 19 hosting Lyons-Decatur Northeast at 7 p.m.
