Winside volleyball splits road triangular, Marotz with double-double in Osmond match

Following a week off from competition, a mid-September road triangular began a three-match week for Winside.

From Homer, Winside visited the Knights and also faced Osmond on Tuesday.

Winside was swept by Wynot last Tuesday, September 10 and have previously played just two matches in the month entering Tuesday.

Winside picked up a 2-1 win against Osmond and suffered a 2-0 loss with the host Homer. The Wildcats are now 3-5 on the season.

The third match favored Homer over Osmond (25-15, 25-16).

In the victory over Osmond, scores of the match favored Winside 16-25, 28-26, 25-11.

Freshman Bridge Marotz recorded a double-double with 14 kills and 12 digs; sophomore Hadleigh Schutt posted 14 assists, eight digs and two kills as Samantha Gubbels led the team in digs with 20.

Sophomore Katelyn Jaeger followed with five kills, three digs and one solo block; sophomore Ellie Topp (three digs) and junior Jerzi Carlson (13 digs) both had three kills as sophomore Adrianna Miller tacked on one kill and three digs. Other digs came from senior Skylar Spann (five assists) with four digs.

Topp finished with four service aces, Marotz added three aces, Carlson had two aces as Schutt and Spann both tallied an ace.

From the loss with Homer, scores of the match favored the host Knights 25-10 and 25-11.

Topp (one block) and Marotz (four digs) both finished with three kills; Schutt had six assists, three digs and one kill as Gubbels led the team in digs with six.

Jaeger added two kills as other digs came from Carlson (one block) with three digs.
