With no boys out for cross country, it'll be an all-girls season for the Winside Wildcats which began in late August.
From Hartington during the Hartington-Newcastle Invite on Aug. 27, the Winside girls finished fifth (81 pts).
Aleah Bilstein collected an 11th place medal (23:35.3) for the Wildcats on the 5k course.
Four matches are complete for the Winside volleyball program to open their season.
From Winside, the Wildcats first dropped a four-set match against Creighton (25-15, 17-25, 11-25, 15-25) on Aug. 27 before going 1-2 at the Randolph Quad on Aug. 29.
Winside was swept by Howells-Dodge (13-25, 13-25), dropped a three-set match against Hartington-Newcastle (22-25, 25-21, 17-25) and swept the host Cardinals (25-14, 25-9).
Winside begins the year at 1-3.
Tinsley Schwedhelm recorded a double-double (12 kills/14 digs) against Hartington-Newcastle while Adrianna Miller posted a pair of double-doubles against Creighton (14 assists/10 digs) and against Hartington-Newcastle (11 assists/12 digs).
Four-match leaders were Schwedhelm (43 digs) and Ellie Topp both with 22 kills.
Miller dished out 39 assists to go along with 29 digs.
Aug. 28 showcased a defensive battle between a pair of eight-man football programs.
From Lyons, the Winside football team finished with a victory of 14-8 at Lyons-Decatur Northeast.
The Wildcats begin their year at 1-0.
A pair of rushing touchdowns told the story for Winside being led by Carter Krause with 33 carries for 94 yards and Baker Behmer added 31 yards on nine rush attempts.
Defensively, Asher Uttecht (five solo, one tackle for loss) and Stratton Sellin (four solo, one sack) both recorded six tackles.
