Homecoming festivities kept the spirit high for the Winside football program marking up another 'W' in the win column.
From Winside, the host Wildcats used a late scoring surge to win 39-28 over Lyons-Decatur Northeast on Sept. 19.
Winside has won three straight to improve to 3-1 on the season.
Both teams scored 14 points in the opening quarter before the visiting Cougars built some separation thanks to a 14-3 second quarter.
Lyons-Decatur Northeast led 28-17 at the half.
Winside then turned up the notch in the final two quarters with eight points in the third and another 14 points in the fourth to shutout the Cougars in the second half.
Senior Jayden Aschoff finished 17-22 with 195 yards and five touchdowns. He also ran the ball 10 times for 12 yards.
Junior Carter Krause led the rushing attack with 86 yards on 17 carries along with three catches for 37 yards. Sophomore Asher Uttecht had eight rushes for 17 yards.
Sophomore Jahiem Hamik recorded seven catches for 67 yards and two scores along with senior Matthew Gubbels tacking on four receptions for 58 yards and two scores. Junior Stratton Sellin finished with two catches for 30 yards and one score.
Uttecht recorded a team-high 10 tackles (seven solo) followed by Gubbels with nine tackles (eight solo) and two tackles for loss.
Hamik also had an interception with his four tackles (one solo) and made a field goal.
Next up for Winside will be at Walthill on Friday, September 26 starting at 3 p.m.
