Working in Wayne - Looking Ahead

City Council meetings

Regular Wayne City Council meetings are at 5:30 pm.. on the first and third Mondays of each month at City Hall in the Council Chambers at 513 Main St. Join us just once, I beg of you. You never know; you might just enjoy it!

1100 E 10th St project progress

At every Council meeting there is a staff update on the progress with the planning process for the property at 1100 E 10th St.

The City hired JEO Consulting to help determine the best use of that property by heavily engaging with the public.

Surveys have been completed (350+), pop up events held (two), and focus groups convened (five).

One of the last public engagement pieces the City held was an open house at the property. Approximately 35 people attended to tour the facility and give/leave comments regarding the future of the property.

This information will be delivered to JEO. At the Nov. 30 mini-retreat, JEO will have preliminary recommendations for the Council.

By the end of the calendar year, the final recommendation(s) should be made. The City Council will then discuss to ultimately decide the path forward.

While the formal input process is over, the public can still always reach out to City staff or their elected leaders to continue the dialogue.

Wayne Community Splash Pad Project

The Wayne Community Splash Pad Project representatives had a chance to meet with some of the public while sharing time at the 1100 E 10th Street open house.

The public was able to ask questions about the proposed splash pad and learn more about the potential location and funding. The Northeast Nebraska Economic Development District is helping the splash pad group (in the City’s name) to submit a grant to the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF). While the City has committed $200,000 from sales tax to fund this project, the LWCF grant would add $250,000. That would be a big deal! That grant is due on Oct. 30 and then the waiting game begins!

Four letter word…SNOW

Typically I would say this is very early to remind the public about snow removal rules…but as temperatures have recently yo-yoed up and down, the precipitation we now get might just be in the way of SNOW!

Nevertheless, to make snow removal go the smoothest way possible this fall/winter, remember to keep sidewalks clear of snow and ice 24 hours after the City has cleared the streets. Be kind to your neighbors and everyone using the sidewalk system for exercise and leisure.

If you have questions about the City code on snow/ice removal, don’t hesitate to contact the City.

Christmas Lights Recycling

In the next couple of months, you will undoubtedly become frustrated with those Christmas lights that don’t work, or worse yet, intermittently work.

Remember the City encourages you to recycle those strands. Please bring these old lights to the Recycling and Trash Center, and the City will recycle them for you.
