Jordan Widner appointed as the new Fire Chief, Pet Licensing, Swimming Pool opening

Posted

For the first time in 14 years, the term “Fire Chief” and “Phil Monahan” won’t go together. Monahan did not run for Fire Chief this year, giving the opportunity for his assistant of the past 5 years or so to step into that role. The Mayor and City Council approved the appointment of Jordan Widner to Fire Chief at its last meeting. Widner brings years of experience to the position. The City thanks him for taking on this challenge.

Congratulations, Jordan! And, all City officials thank Monahan for his incredible leadership over the years.

Have you gotten your pets licensed yet for 2026? Chapter 90 of the Wayne City Code requires all dogs and cats be licensed during the month of May.

New licensing and renewal licensing is $6 per animal. If a pet owner forgets to renew, the cost goes up to $21 on June 1. (And if you forget this year….next year will be an additional $21 to catch up!) So get those pets licensed in May and make sure “Luna,” “Milo,” or “Daisy” are returned to their rightful owners should they ever escape your care! (AI told me these are the most popular pet names!)

*The swimming pool was scheduled to open on Saturday, May 23 (weather permitting). Terran Sievers will again be the Pool Manager this year (which is fantastic news!).

The Wayne Aquatic Center will now open on Monday, May 25 at 1:00 p.m. Due to the cold nights and below-average temperatures this week, the pool water has not warmed up enough yet for an enjoyable swimming experience.

Swimming hours for Monday-Friday will be the following: open swim 1 to 5 p.m.; family hour from 6  to 7 p.m.; and, open swim 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday hours will be open swim from 1 to 7 pm.

Individual passes are on sale for $85, senior citizen passes for $70, family passes for $125, and family +1 for $165 (add the babysitter or grandpa/grandma!). These passes are available for purchase online, at the CAC, or at the pool’s front desk. Swimming lessons are still open if people have yet to sign up. They must register ahead of time. We will not accept walk-ins for swim lessons. Please watch the CAC Facebook page or listen to KTCH radio for updates when inclement or cold weather causes a change in pool hours. Have a great summer at the pool!

City Council meetings

Regular Wayne City Council meetings are at 5:30 pm on the first and third Mondays of each month in City Hall at 513 Main Street. What’s been taking up the most space in your brain recently? Come share that with us!
