City Council meetings
Regular Wayne City Council meetings are at 5:30 pm on the first and third Mondays of each month in City Hall at 513 Main St. We would enjoy some company at our next meeting!
Sanitary Sewer Cleaning
In the next few weeks, the City hopes to have its contractor back in town to clean some of our sanitary sewers. This is a preventative maintenance process that makes certain the sewers are flowing with no obstructions.
Electrical Rate Adjustment
The City Council has approved an increase to electric rates starting with the October 2026 billing. This will be for usage from mid-August to mid-September. This adjustment will be about a 6.5% increase with an additional increase of 6.5% starting October 2027.
A rate study was conducted by JEO Consulting, who was hired in April. JEO had recommended an 11% increase, but the Council did not want to increase that much all at once. It was noted that rates should be evaluated again after the City switches to be its own market participant (MP) within the Southwest Power Pool (SPP).
Budget Process
The City of Wayne is at the beginning of its formal budget process. Staff has met with Finance Director Beth Porter and me to discuss the needs of each department. Beth then compiles the numbers for both expenses and revenues. She will present the budget to the Council for the first time on Aug. 3 in a budget workshop, immediately after the regular agenda of the Council that evening. This is completely open to the pubic!
If you ever want to discuss the City budget with staff, Beth or I will make ourselves available.
