Regular City Council meetings

Regular Wayne City Council meetings are at 5:30 pm on the first and third Mondays of each month in City Hall at 513 Main Street. A great New Year’s resolution…be more physically active AND attend more City Council meetings!

Property Taxes

As property owners are getting next year’s property tax statements in the mail, you will undoubtedly ask yourself “where does this money go again?”

I hope I can help with that. These following numbers are for those property owners who live in City limits and pay City property taxes. For every dollar ($1.00) of property taxes you pay, the following is a breakdown for 2025 (with most people likely paying in 2026 through their escrow account or semi-annual payments directly to the County Treasurer): Wayne Community Schools (includes district bonds), 54 1/2 cents; City of Wayne (includes City debt, Community Redevelopment Authority, and Wayne Municipal Airport), 28 cents; Wayne County, 14 cents; Northeast Community College, just over 1 cent; Lower Elkhorn NRD, just over 1 cent; Educational Service Unit #1, 1 cent; and, the Ag Society, just under 1/2 cent.

“Fun” fact…the City’s property tax ask doesn’t even cover the Wayne Police Department budget; many other revenue sources fund general City government (ie sales tax, occupation tax, Keno taxes, interest on investments, etc).

For comparative purposes, previous years’ tax rates since 2008 can be found on the Wayne County website (under the Commissioners tab). If you ever want to talk taxes, let me know. I love to nerd out on those types of conversations!

Local businesses need us, and we need them!

Thank you to all of Wayne’s area businesses for another amazing year providing goods and services, as well as employment, to and for the community. We as a community must keep supporting these businesses so they can in turn keep supporting our community.

Amazon and Wal-Mart aren’t sponsoring your children’s softball team or FFA fundraisers (to name just a couple)! Your local businesses have for years and years and continue to support many community needs in full force! Remember the importance to live local!
