City Council meetings
Regular Wayne City Council meetings are at 5:30 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month in City Hall at 513 Main Street. We get lonely when it’s just us, so come join the conversation.
City Council Meeting Date Change; Retreat Scheduled
Due to the Wayne City Council’s regularly scheduled first-Monday-of-the-month meeting falling on Labor Day, the Council changed this meeting to Tuesday, Sept. 8. Make sure to adjust your calendars accordingly.
The Council set its next mini-retreat for Monday, Aug. 31 at 5:30 p.m. at 1100 E 10th St. These retreats are always open to the public as well.
Final Budget Preparation
As the City continues to work through the 2026-2027 budget process, the City Council heard a valuation update at its last meeting. Property values in the City of Wayne rose 8.8% from last year (the previous year's valuations in the City went up 9.3%).
The final tax levy will be set formally in September. Public hearings will also be advertised and held in September regarding the budget. As always if you would like to discuss City finances – tax levies, bond financing, sales tax uses, fund accounting…really anything fiscal that gets you excited to face another day – come in and talk to Beth or me. We would love to talk about what we do, especially during this part of the fiscal year.
1100 E 10th St Planning Process
Surveys are still available to be completed for the public to weigh in on what it wants the property at 1100 E 10th Street to be in the future. This survey will be open until late September and can be found on the City’s website or via hard copies at the Wayne Public Library.
Focus groups have been scheduled for the first part of September by the consultant JEO. These focus groups include 5 different sets: health and wellness; education and daycare; business and entrepreneurs; arts, recreation, and tourism; and general residents.
There will also be a “pop up” event in Bressler Park on Sunday, Sept. 13 at Bressler Fest to gather additional feedback from the community. The City and JEO are trying to be as accessible as possible with this process.
Questions? Just ask!
Electric Substation Update
The Wayne City Council approved Muth Electric to construct the Northeast Centennial Road Substation project at its last meeting. This is the contractor who will put the puzzle together! The City has had multiple “puzzle pieces” purchased, but once all these pieces are on site, Muth will assemble everything. The final contractor to be awarded later this year will be for the egress circuits’ phase. This phase of the substation project will connect the new substation to the rest of the City’s grid.
