Spring is right around the corner, and that means it’s almost time for one of the most exciting seasons at Wayne Public Library—Summer Reading Program. Sign-ups will begin in April, and we invite readers of all ages to take part in the fun.
This year’s program will feature a variety of fun programs and special events all summer long. We’ll kick things off with a Carnival-themed celebration on Friday, May 29 from 4-7 p.m. at 1100 E 10th Street, complete with games, a bounce house, a petting zoo, cotton candy, and more. It’s a great way for families to start the summer with an evening full of fun at the library.
Participants in the Summer Reading Program can track their reading to earn prizes, including Chamber Bucks. Readers can also complete special challenges throughout the summer for a chance to win a themed prize bag.
In addition to preparing for a busy summer, the library is also beginning the re-accreditation process through the Nebraska Library Commission. The purpose of public library accreditation is to encourage excellent library service in Nebraska communities. It is a measure of community pride in the library and the services it offers to its citizens. Accreditation is the standard by which services are offered, as evidenced by measuring the library against guidelines developed by a task force of professional librarians.
As part of this process, Wayne Public Library is asking for community input. A library services survey is currently available, and we encourage everyone to participate. The survey is open to all community members—not just current library patrons. Feedback from the survey will help guide the library’s goals and priorities for the next five years.
Community members can stop by the library to fill out a paper copy of the survey, or visit our social media pages for a link to complete it online.
