It is important that all businesses and customers are aware of and abiding by debit card transaction policies. Please be advised that surcharging customers for the use of debit cards is prohibited.
Businesses currently applying surcharges on debit card transactions are expected to discontinue this practice immediately. Continuing to impose such fees may result in customer disputes, chargebacks, potential penalties and fines from payment processors, and further regulatory review.
All business owners are encouraged to review their point-of-sale systems and payment processing policies to ensure compliance. If you are unsure whether your current surcharge practices meet legal and card network requirements, please consult your payment processor or legal advisor promptly.
