Workings in Wayne – Vehicles, pets and weeds

Posted

Spring brings several timelines to keep in mind within the City of Wayne.

For any owners of ATV’S or UTV’s the month of April was the time to renew city permits that allows the operation of these vehicles to be driven within the City Limits.  If you forgot the renewal month do not operate them on the streets until they have been renewed.  There is no late fee to renew for the year.

For any of you that are pet owners, pet license renewal month was the month of May. Any domestic dog or cat must be licensed within the city annually. Proof of rabies vaccinations are required at time of licensing or renewal.

With the change of seasons usually brings out more people walking their pets in the community on sidewalks and trails. For the safety and courtesy of everyone in the community, including other’s pets, all animals are required to be controlled by a leash or at heel beside a person and obedient to their commands. If your animal does not have instant recall to your commands, it should be leashed at all times while on public spaces, (excluding the dog park).

Notices are sent out to properties found to be in violation observed either by officers on patrol or from a complaint from the general public. If the five day notice is not complied with, either the city or an approved contractor will be sent to mow the property and the property owner is billed for the work done at a rate of $300.00 an hour. Keep the fees in mind as it is far cheaper to hire the work done privately if you are unable to do it yourself for whatever reason. We do not want to mow the property for noncompliance but will do so to remove the nuisance from the neighborhood.
