A game-winning field goal decided an in-state rivalry in favor of Wayne State College.
From Ron and Carol Cope Stadium in Kearney, Boston Hensley drilled a 33-yard field goal as time expired to allow WSC to defeat UNK, 21-20.
The Wildcats begin their season at 1-0.
Brady McGill completed 13 of 21 for 185 yards and one interception. Keaton Bonderson hauled in three receptions for 76 yards as Malaki Sik was key on the final drive with two catches for 44 yards.
Kaden Johnson collected a team-high eight tackles (three solo) with a half tackle for loss.
Now #2 Wayne State College survived a five set thriller and swept three other opponents during their trip to New York.
First from Garden City, New York on Aug. 29, preseason #9 WSC won in five sets over then #2 Tampa (fell to #4) (25-17, 25-17, 19-25, 19-25, 15-11) and swept Adelphi (NY) (25-19, 25-15, 25-15).
Moving over to Flushing, New York on Aug. 29, the Wildcats swept both Queens College (NY) (25-9, 25-6, 25-12) and Bloomsburg (PA) (25-7, 25-12, 25-7).
WSC is 4-0 to open season 2026 and moved up seven spots in the week one AVCA/Taraflex DII Coaches Poll. The 'Cats are receiving 1,066 points and 11 first place votes.
Four-match leaders were posted by Delaney Miller with 45 kills followed by Chloe Hanel who added 37 kills and a team-high 11 blocks (six solo).
Molly Romano totaled 127 assists during the four matches. She also had 27 digs.
Anna Borner collected a team-high 40 digs during the weekend.
Six different players scored in the season opener for Wayne State College women's soccer.
From the WSC Soccer Complex, the Wildcats dominated in a 6-1 home victory over Morningside on Aug. 28 to start their year at 1-0.
Wildcat goalkeeper Alexa Hofstetter recorded six saves.
WSC finished with 11 shot attempts (nine on goal) and three corner kicks (all in first half).
