WSC athletics recap: football, volleyball, women's soccer, cross country

NSIC South Divisional play began in late September for Wayne State College.

From Marshall, MN on Sept. 26, WSC outscored  Southwest Minnesota State, 24-7 in the second half to win 38-24.

The Wildcats are now 4-1 (3-1 NSIC).

Brennan Hayes finished the game with 178 yards on 27 carries and four scores.

Clyde Hinton recorded a team-high eight tackles (four solo) and forced a fumble while Luke Lambert added seven tackles (one solo).

 

A trio of NSIC matches ended with a top 15 national showdown for #2 Wayne State College.

First from Sioux Falls, SD on Sept. 24, the Wildcats won a four set match at Augustana (18-25, 25-14, 25-21, 25-17) followed by a home sweep on Set. 26 over Sioux Falls (25-13, 25-19, 25-17).

#2 WSC concluded with a 3-0 sweep at #11 Southwest Minnesota State (25-20, 25-21, 26-24) on Sept. 29.

The Wildcats are now 15-1, 7-0 NSIC.

Double-doubles were posted by Channatee Robles against Augustana (11 kills/18 digs) and Molly Romano against SMSU (35 assists/10 digs).

WSC finished the three matches with 29 team blocks.

 

The final weekend in September showcased the second straight road series for Wayne State College women's soccer.

First from Winona, MN, WSC won 3-0 at Winona State on Sept. 25 followed by a 1-1 draw at Concordia-St. Paul on Sept. 27.

WSC is now 3-5-1 (2-3-1 NSIC).

In the win over the Warriors, Taylor Woods scored 34 seconds into the second half off an assist by Tyler Donaldson.

Other second half goals were scored in the 61st (Morgan Mancuso) and 62nd minutes (Woods, assist by Donaldson).

Alexa Hofstetter recorded a clean sheet with five saves.

During the tie at CSP, Sarah Pritchard scored in the 11th minute thanks to an assist by Addison Vodnansky.

Hofstetter allowed just one goal and recorded 11 saves.

 

After having two weeks off from competition following a rain out in mid-Sept., the Wayne State College women's and men's cross country visited Yankton Trails Park a second time this season.

From Sioux Falls, SD during the Augustana Invite on Sept. 25, the WSC women finished 12th with 384 points among 20 teams while the Wildcat men placed 15th (460 pts.) among 19 teams.

In the women's 6,000-meter division, Addison Bertrand led the Wildcat women in 63rd (22:26.4) followed by Callie Kirchner (86th - 22:59.8).

During men's competition on the 8,000-meter course, Lucas Frazier was the top WSC finisher placing 41st in 25:13 while the next fastest runner was William Keller (161st - 26:59.9).
