WSC beach volleyball splits with top ranked NAIA Ottawa (AZ), Arizona Christian

Following a triangular at Nebraska in late February, the Wayne State College beach volleyball team began a busy stretch of matches during their spring break trip.

From Victory Lane Sports Park in Glendale, Arizona, WSC opened with Ottawa (AZ) and Arizona Christian Saturday afternoon.

WSC first picked up a 3-2 victory over NAIA #1 ranked Ottawa (Ariz.) before suffering a 3-2 loss against NAIA #4 ranked Arizona Christian. WSC now sits at 3-2.

In the win over Ottawa (AZ), the Wildcats picked up wins in the 2, 3 and 4 pairings to post the victory.  #4 pairing Reese Johnson and Ella Myler rallied for a 14-21, 21-18, 15-11 win.

Wayne State’s other two wins came in sweeps as the #2 duo of Chloe Hanel and Channatee Robles edged Ottawa’s Amey Rainaud and Eliana Dean 21-17, 21-18 while the Wildcats’ #3 pairing of Brooklyn Kusler and Molly Romano picked up a 21-18, 21-15 win.

During the loss against Arizona Christian, three of the five matches went all three sets between the two clubs.

Wildcat wins came from 3s pairing Molly Romano and Brooklyn Kusler, rallying for a 14-21, 21-19, 15-12 win over Arizona Christian’s Emee Fellens and Abigail Nelson.  The other WSC win also came in three sets as the #4 team of Reese Johnson and Ella Myler outlasted Emily Katzer and Jaiden Zeis from Arizona Christian 21-17, 12-21 and 15-11.

The #5 pairing of Rhianna Wilhelm and Brooke Peltz suffered a three-set loss by scores of 21-18, 19-21 and 15-12.  Other results saw #1 duo Taylor Bunjer and Ava Spies fall 21-12 and 21-15 while the Wildcat 2s pairing of Chloe Hanel and Channatee Robles fell 21-19, 21-16.
