WSC cross country teams compete at Briar Cliff Invite

The Wayne State women finished sixth and the Wildcat men were eighth in a 14-team field of runners at Saturday’s Briar Cliff Invitational, held at the Adams Nature Preserve in North Sioux City, S.D.

Molly McCartney was the top Wildcat finisher, coming in ninth overall out of 166 runners with a time of 18:48 on the 5,000-meter course. Wayne freshman Andrea Torres was next in 32nd place at 19:30,  with Kim Lowman 39th overall with a time of 19:39.

Other Wildcat runners included Allie Rosener (49th, 19:53), Joan Jelimo (50th, 19:56), Amanda Mote (97th, 20:59), Josephine Peitz (98th, 21:02), Hannah Perkins (103rd, 21:15), Brianna Crouch (116th, 21:43), Marin Jetensky (118th, 21:46), Payton Birkel (147th, 23:07) and Sabrina Sack (149th, 23:08).

Dylan Kessler was one of three Wildcat runners to place in the top 30 overall out of a field of 145 runners. Kessler crossed the line in 12th place at 26:08, followed by Isaias Solorio and Bailey Peckham in 29th and 30th place overall with times of 26:46.

Other Wildcat runners included Brock Hegarty (51st, 27:20), Nathan Hiemer (81st, 28:12), Nathan Pearson (83rd, 28:15), Bryce Holcomb (84th, 28:15), Garrett Wells (89th, 28:25), Jesus Arellano (92nd, 28:30) and Jakob Kemper (98th, 29:05).

Wayne State’s next meet is Saturday, Oct. 20 at the Mount Marty Invitational in Yankton, S.D.
