Wayne State’s men’s and women’s cross country teams were honored with the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Association All-Academic Team awards recently.

For the sixth consecutive year, the Wayne State men’s cross country team was awarded the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team Award for the 2016 season. Junior Antoine Bardou was also named to the individual USTFCCCA All-Academic list.

The Wildcat men’s team was one of eight from the NSIC and 115 in NCAA Division II to receive the honor as WSC recorded a cumulative grade-point average of 3.12.

To qualify for the team academic award, a team must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or better and compiled a team score at their respective NCAA regional meet. The individual All-Academic honor is given to those student-athletes who have compiled a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.25 and finished among the top 30 percent of eligible runners and his/her regional championship.

The Wayne State women’s cross country team was honored for the fourth time in the last five years, recording an overall grade-point average of 3.80, the third best team GPA among 156 NCAA Div. II schools that received the award. Wayne State was one of 12 schools from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference to collect the All-Academic Team Award.
