A second straight weekend of indoor track & field competition showcased Wayne State College top performances.
From the Concordia University Fieldhouse in Seward, WSC was among Division II teams from Concordia Irvine (Calif.) and Nebraska-Kearney along with NAIA schools including host Concordia, Briar Cliff, Benedictine and Bethany of Kansas, Dakota Wesleyan, Doane, Hastings, Kansas Wesleyan, Mid America Nazarene (Kan.), Midland and Mount Marty.
The Wayne State College women were led by junior Olivia Schwarzrock and freshman Reagan Murphy.
Senior Hailey Baker had the top finish for the Wildcats, collecting a second place mark in the weight throw at 55’ ¾”. Schwarzrock posted a fourth-place mark in the weight throw at 53’ 8 ¼” and was eighth in shot put with a top throw of 41’ 4 ¼”. Murphy had a fifth-place finish in the 200-meter dash at 27.00 seconds and was seventh in the 60-meter hurdles finals in 10.28 seconds.
Junior Jozlyn Barnes had a fourth-place finish in the 800-meter run (2:32.93) with freshman Zoey Holmes taking fifth in the 600-meter run at 1:40.46.
In the 3,000-meter run, Madeline Kunz took fifth in a time of 11:08.74 with Sydney Escritt right behind in sixth at 11:09.58.
Junior Lindsey Kneifl had a sixth-place finish in the long jump (16’ 10 ½”) with Taylor Thorp placing eighth in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 3:41.32.
During men’s action, two of Wayne State College’s event wins came from Stanton freshman Mitchell Hupp who posted wins in the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes.
Hupp collected his first win of the day crossing the line first in the 60-meter dash finals in 6.89 seconds and followed that with a win Saturday evening in the 200-meter dash finals at 22.13 seconds.
The Wildcats collected two other event wins in field events as senior Daniel Elge placed first in the shot put with a mark of 52’ 5 ½” and was second in the weight throw (58’ 1’) while sophomore Jaxson Ninete had the top effort in the weight throw with a winning mark of 58’ 8”.
Daylin Mallory had a second-place mark in the shot put with a toss of 51’ 11”.
Freshman Emmanuel Badejo had a stellar debut for the Wildcats in the sprints taking third in the 60-meter dash (6.97) and another third-place finish in the 200-meter finals in 22.56 seconds.
Sophomore Elliott Nottlemann posted a third-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 22’ 2 ½” and was fourth in the high jump clearing 6’ 2”.
Quentin Dreyer took fourth in the one-mile run in a time of 4:18.22 and was fifth in the 1,000-meter run (2:34.15).
Other top finishers for the Wildcats included Alex Razee fifth in the 400-meter dash (51.64), senior Wyatt Nissen was sixth in the 200-meter dash (22.67), Brody Lucas seventh in the 800-meter run at 2:03.14 and J’Dyn Bullion was eighth in the weight throw at 51’ 8 ¼”.
The Wayne State College women’s and men’s indoor track & field teams will next compete in Mankato, Minnesota at the Mark Schuck Open on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 31 – Feb. 1.
