WSC men use balance attack, finish one point shy of century mark

Following a 2-0 road start to the season for Wayne State College men’s hoops, Friday night marked the home opener for WSC.

From Rice Auditorium, WSC welcomed Barclay College (KS) Friday night.

WSC jumped ahead early and never looked back during a 99-39 final. The Wildcats improved to 3-0 as Friday’s game for Barclay College was an exhibition. WSC has now won 15 straight non-conference games dating back to the 2022 season opener, per Wildcat Athletics.

Wayne State College led 52-13 at the break and outscored Barclay College in the second half, 47-26.

Five posted double figure scoring led by Cody McCullough (6-8 FG) with 12 points, six rebounds, one steal and two assists; JJ Ferrin (4-6 FG/3-4 3PT) followed with 11 points, three assists and two rebounds; Matt Noll (4-6 FG/1-1 3PT/2-4 FT) added 11 points, five rebounds, one block and one assist; Nassir Binion (4-4 FG/1-1 3PT/1-2 FT) tallied 10 points, two rebounds and one steal as Aiden Sullivan (5-5 FG/0-1 FT) tacked on 10 points, three rebounds and three assists.

Other scoring came from Landon Classen (three rebounds/six assists/two steals) with nine points; both Kai Smith (three rebounds/four assists/one steal) and Ryan Blum (five rebounds) had eight points; Sean Stokes (three rebounds/three assists/two steals) totaled seven points; Wade Voss (seven rebounds/one assist) had five points; Jay Saunders (one rebound/one assist) added four points as Noah Erickson (two rebounds/one assist/one steal) and Evan Inselman (two rounds) both had two points.

WSC shot 42-67 (62.7%) from the field, 9-22 (37.5%) from the three-point line and 6-10 (60%) at the foul line.

Wayne State College outrebounded Barclay College, 46-19 including 13-5 offensive which led to 18 second chance points compared to five by Barclay College. WSC scored 13 points off of 15 Barclay College turnovers while Barclay scored 12 points off of 11 Wildcat turnovers.

WSC won the battle in the paint (62-26), fast break scoring (15-10) and bench points (64-12).
