The Wayne State College men’s basketball team has received the National Association of Basketball Coaches Team Excellence Award.
The award recognizes outstanding academic achievement by a team with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better for the 2016-17 season.
The Wildcats recorded a team cumulative grade point average of 3.4015 during the 2016-17 season, joining six other NSIC teams that received the award. The NABC Honors Court recognizes teams and individuals in NCAA, NAIA and NJCAA that achieve academic success.
Wayne State ended the 2016-17 season with a 10-19 record, placing sixth in the NSIC South Division at 8-14 in league play. The Wildcats doubled last year’s win total under first-year head coach Jeff Kaminsky and returns all players for next season since this year’s roster had no seniors.
