Three days of competition are in the books for the Wayne State College women's and men's outdoor track & field program during the Drake Relays.
From Des Moines, Iowa, events were held Thursday, April 24 - Saturday, April 26.
In the women's division, senior thrower Reilly Young recorded a third-place finish during the discus in a stellar field of throwers with a mark of 162’ 9”. She trailed only Iowa’s Sydnie Smith (171’ 7”) and Charlotte Frere of Augustana (Ill.) at 163’ 10”.
Sophomore Torrance Tso also competed in the discus and was 16th overall with a top throw of 143’ 7”.
Senior Hailey Baker was in the hammer throw and just missed finals taking 11th with a mark of 177’ 10” while the 4 x 100 meter relay team of Elizabeth Mayer, Zoey Holmes, Reagan Murphy and Alyssa Folds ran in the prelims Friday morning and posted a time of 49.07 seconds to finish 23rd overall.
During the men's division, the Wayne State College men’s 4 x 400-meter relay team set a new record.
The quartet of Alex Razee, Wyatt Nissen, Mujeeb Adewuyi and freshman Emmanuel Badejo produced a time of 3:16.91 to eclipse the previous school record by just over two seconds (3:18.94) and held by Jared Balady, Derek Lahm, Mike King and Zach Thomsen in the 2014 season.
Senior thrower Daniel Elge made the finals in the hammer throw and finished ninth with a top mark of 188’ 8”.
Other individual Wildcat results from Drake saw freshman sprinter Mitchell Hupp take 15th in the 100-meter dash prelims with a time of 10.56 seconds followed by Badejo who was 17th in the 400-meter dash prelims with a time of 48.50 seconds.
Three other relay teams also competed at Drake. The 4 x 800-meter relay team of Quentin Dreyer, Brody Lucas, Ethan Walters and Akron Jostand placed 16th with a time of 7:48.03; the 4 x 100-meter relay of Luke Klabenes, Hupp, Nissen and Badejo were 14th out of 38 teams in 41.95 seconds while the distance medley relay quartet of Lucas, Austin Madsen, Walters and Dreyer were 15th in 10:22.36.
