The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced the 2018-19 NABC Honors Court, recognizing men’s basketball student-athletes who excelled in academics during the past season. Wayne State College had two players receive the award – senior Vance Janssen and junior Luke TerHark.
In order to be named to the Honors Court, a student-athlete must meet the following academic criteria: student-athlete must be a junior or senior academically, record a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or higher at the conclusion of the 2018-19 academic year, have played at the institution for at least one year and be a member of an institution with a NABC member coach.
Janssen, a 6-foot-2 senior guard, maintained a 3.719 grade-point average majoring in pre-pharmacy and chemical health science. He started all but one game in his four years on the basketball court at point guard and averaged 12.1 points and 3.5 rebounds per game as a senior to earn All-NSIC honorable mention honors.
Janssen ended his Wildcat career ranking second in career steals (165), fifth in career assists (289) and 19th in career scoring with 1,153 points. He was awarded the Butch Raymond Scholarship by Sanford Health and is a three-time selection to the NSIC All-Academic Team.
TerHark, a 6-foot-2 junior guard, posted a 3.60 grade-point average majoring in sport management and finance. He appeared in 29 games with four starts this season and averaged 1.3 points and 1.0 rebounds per contest. TerHark was named to the NSIC Winter All-Academic Team as a sophomore and junior.
