WSC plays Wayne State University

Monday afternoon showcased Wayne State College against Wayne State University during the Russ Matt Invitational.

From Chain of Lake Park in Winter Haven, Florida, WSC competed in a single nine-inning outing with WSU.

In a battle of Wayne State’s it was the Wildcats from Nebraska running away with an 11-1 decision.

Early Wayne State College run production came from a solo homerun by senior Taylor Gill in the bottom of the second followed by a sacrifice bunt by senior Chase Douglas scoring redshirt sophomore Noah Strizek in the third. WSC led 2-0.

Following a scoreless fourth, Wayne State College added four runs in the fifth. Douglas posted a two-run homerun while senior Kaden Young drove in Gill and sophomore Max Heard to put the ‘Cats up 6-0.

Wayne State University scored their lone run in the top of the sixth which was then answered in the home half of the sixth by WSC. Douglas drove in junior Casey Prychak.

The Wildcats closed with a run following a triple from junior Braden Cannon scoring senior Quinn McCafferty as three more runs crossed the plate in the eighth. Heard was hit by pitch which scored Strizek with the bases loaded, redshirt junior Cam Madsen scored on a balk as sophomore Brayden Chaney tallied a sac-fly scoring Douglas.

Final favored Wayne State College winning 11-1 and outhitting Wayne State University, 9-5 as neither team committed an error. The Wildcats improved to 4-8 on the season and have gone 2-2 in Florida.

Chase Douglas posted a two-run homerun, singled, drove in four total runs and scored twice; Taylor Gill recorded a solo homerun with two total runs scored; Braden Cannon tripled and drove in a run as Noah Strizek doubled and scored twice. Cam Madsen also singled twice and scored twice.

Kaden Young singled and drove in two runs; Quinn McCafferty singled and scored; Max Heard accounted for a RBI and run scored; Brayden Chaney added a RBI as Casey Prychak scored.

Senior Tyson Romero (pitch count NA) picked up the win in six innings allowing an earned run off five hits while striking out four batters and hitting one.

Junior Adam Eggert worked an inning striking out one batter and hitting one. Senior Josh Kilzer closed out the final inning striking out and walking one batter each.
