After splitting their past two weeks on the road, the Wayne State College football team  put a halt to an early undefeated team.

From Nemzek Stadium in Moorhead, Minnesota on Sept. 20, WSC held onto a 27-17 victory to improve to 2-2 (2-1 NSIC).

The Dragons fell to 3-1 (2-1 NSIC) and were receiving votes just outside the top 25 last week.

NSIC Special Teams Player of the Week, Boston Hensley connected on one of two field goals early in the first quarter with 9:27 remaining on a 34-yard attempt. This marked his second career POW recognition.

Bennett Dannenbring then found his favorite target being Dane Pentersen (five catches for 46 yards) for the fourth time this season on a 12-yard pass with 4:11 left in the opening quarter.

To close out a 17-point first quarter for the Wildcats, NSIC Offensive Player of the Week Dawson Forgy rushed for a 78-yard score with 15 seconds left.

Forgy scored the lone second quarter points for WSC on a 14-yard run with 3:08 until half to build their lead to at-most 24-0.

After giving up 17 straight points, Wayne State College punter Jacob Borrall was hit on a roughing the kicker penalty which kept the final drive going.

Hensley later sealed the deal thanks to a 26-yard field goal with 1:08 left in the game.

Dannennbring finished 16-26 for 107 yards and one score. He also ran the ball eight times for 42 yards.

Forgy carried the rock 31 times for 223 yards and two scores to earn his first-ever NSIC offensive POW honors. The last 200+ yard runner was Ryan Ludlow in 2014 (252 yards at Sioux Falls on 11/15/14). Forgy also had two catches for 10 yards and two kickoff returns for 43 yards to total 276 all-purpose yards.

Curtis Witte (18 yards) and Wayne native Alex Phelps (14 yards) both hauled in two receptions.

Team leader through four games, Jes Krcil posted a team-high seven tackles (five solo) to go along with two and a half tackles for loss and one and a half sacks. Kaden Johnson followed with six tackles (two solo) and a half tackle for loss and half sack.

Other sack leaders to total seven were Kaden Sutton and Clyde Hinton (both 1.5) as well as Carter Sitzman and James Frank (both one).

Mitchell Anderson and Hinton both recorded an interception.

Hensley connected on all three of his PATs and averaged 55.5 yards on six kickoff with two touchbacks.
