WSC sends trio to indoor nationals

Three Wayne State indoor track and field athletes will compete in the NCAA Div II Indoor Nationals, set for March 10-11 in Virginia Beach, Va.

Brooklynn Chipps and Mckenzie Scheil are repeat national qualifiers in the weight throw for the Wayne State College women. 

Chipps, a senior, is ranked second in NCAA Div. II in the weight throw entering nationals. She recorded a season-best mark of 66-11 1/2 at the Minnesota State Massive Meet on Feb. 11. Chipps won the NSIC weight throw last weekend in Mankato at 65-2 3/4 and is a national qualifier for the second time in her career in the weight throw.

Scheil, a graduate student), is a national qualifier in the weight throw for a fifth straight year and is a two-time All-American in the event, placing sixth last year and second in 2021. She has the seventh-best mark in NCAA Div. II entering nationals with a top mark of 64-4 3/4 at the SDSU Holiday Invite Dec. 2. Both Chipps and Scheil will compete in the weight throw on Friday, March 10 at 12:30 p.m.

Junior Dylan Kneifl is an indoor national qualifier for the first time after clearing a season-best 6-11 1/2 at the SDSU Last Chance Meet Feb. 18. He is ranked 13th in NCAA Div. II entering nationals and will compete on Saturday, March 11 at 4:05 p.m. Kneifl earned All-NSIC honors last weekend with a second-place finish at the NSIC Indoor Championships in Mankato, clearing 6-9 1/2.
